Hartung-Bergman Foundation – a sanctuary of creativity
Aug 17, 2024I hope you're soaking up the joys of a fabulous, relaxing summer, wherever you are!
I've been adventuring through the French Riviera, blending vacation time with the thrill of discovering new art destinations. 🐝
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my recent discovery—the hidden gem of Paul Signac’s house! 🤩 I might share more about this secret haven in a future article, but today, I’m inviting you to the home of one of the most romantic artist couples of the 20th century: Hartun – Bergman Foundation in Antibes, South of France!

German Hans Hartung (b. 1904) and Norwegian Anna-Eva Bergman (b. 1909) met in Paris in 1929, got married, and embarked on a European adventure that led them to the sun-kissed South of France.

Though their first marriage lasted only eight years, fate brought them back together in 1952, rekindling a deep love that lasted a lifetime.
Not only their living spaces, but also their studios, with massive windows inviting the Provençal light, became sanctuaries of creativity.

Surrounded by nature, they drew inspiration from classical music as they painted, each in their own distinct abstract style. 🎨 While Hartung pursued an expressive gestural abstraction, Bergman took on a more structured, geometrical approach to her creations.

Today, Hans Hartung and Anna-Eva Bergman are still largely undiscovered by the broader art world, known primarily to a select group of discerning art enthusiasts and collectors.
However, their time in the spotlight is rapidly approaching, with major exhibitions in prestigious museums and galleries across Germany, France, Norway, and beyond. 🌎

As their recognition grows, so does the potential of their work as a unique and valuable addition to any art collection.
